Mythic Physique: Book Reviews

The Naked Warrior, a tome by Russian strength expert Pavel, promises to reveal the secrets of the Super-Strong and demonstrate how one can become phenomenally mighty by performing only two bodyweight exercises. No weights, no pills, no gimmicks.

This sounded too good to be true. Cautiously, I read the book and tried the program.

Pavel delivers on his promises. The daily workout, utilizing simple tension and leveraging as well as esoteric martial arts techniques, is indeed easy to understand. Performing the exercises, however, requires everything you've got, and then some. Within days, however, I was able to crank out a couple of good reps of movements that initially unbalanced me.

The secrets Pavel reveals are mostly ones you already know: if you practice something daily, you get better at it; work smarter, not harder, to get the result you want... you've heard these things before and, no doubt, believe them. Pavel's genius comes in demonstrating how to apply these maxims to super strength building. Results do come quickly if you persevere (though it doesn't seem so in the beginning when you're struggling to perform one rep) and the effects of your new-found strength are measurable without machinery.

I love pumping the iron, but my nomadic lifestyle leaves me little time to enjoy the pleasures of my home gym. The Naked Warrior has given me a way of building my strength anywhere and the results translate well when I hit the weights.
